An Autumn Anniversary

It’s a magical time really

In its own special way

With naked tree branches

Leaving lonely nests on display

 

A thousand leaves falling

Without making a sound

Laying a soft golden carpet

Upon dry ground

 

It’s the season we chose

And the season we’ve met

“Let’s get married in autumn”

The two of us said

 

Do you still remember the plot?

A day dressed in red and rusty brown

Under giant oak trees

Somewhere far out of town

 

You in your wedding dress

That matches the season

Wearing a smile so radiantly

For one obvious reason

 

It will be just you and me

In that moment together

Promising our Father in heaven

To love each other forever

 

Now be it rainy or be it sunny that day

It doesn’t matter to me at all

For all that matters is that I’ve found you

The girl I’m marrying next Fall

You’re the sweetest thing

You’re the sugar in my coffee

And if you were an activity

You’d be my dearest hobby

 

You’re the sun’s warm touch

On a cold winter’s day

You’re a bee’s favourite flower

In every bouquet

 

You’re that silly old love song

That keeps getting stuck in my head

You’re that cosy blanket on a rainy day

That makes me want to stay in bed

 

You’re the chocolate in the box

The one I’m saving for last

You’re that memory I want to relive

From years gone past

 

You’re the song that calms me

A soothing melody

You’re my inspiration

When I write my poetry

 

You’re my hope, my light

My dream I pursue

You’re the girl I fell in love with

My every wish come true

We have found each other

With no warning, out of the blue

You reached in unexpectedly

You’ve heard my heart’s cries

You have found me

When I wasn’t looking for you

 

You were wandering around blindly

Then the next thing you knew

We have found each other

For I have found you

When you weren’t looking for me

 

So let us be led by love

Until we are together

I’ve found you and you’ve found me

A bond that would last forever

Carefully moulded by our Father above

On that very fateful day

Want elke eindelose dag

Sonder jou daarin

Word dit donker soos die nag

En maak bitter min nog sin

 

Want as die mis jou oorval

En jy voor my oë verdwyn

En saam met dit my moed

Verval my hart in ‘n woestyn

 

Waar woeste winde waai en woed

En hoop sukkel om te groei

In ‘n plek van honger en dors wees

Bly my hart aan verlange geboei

In Love

I was comfortably walking

Neither flying, nor crawling

Then out of the blue

You tripped me

The next thing I knew

I was falling

I was falling fast for you

 

You gave me a new direction

You send me spiraling down

Tumbling from above

Now I didn’t mean to jump

Instead you gave me a shove

I didn’t expect to swim, so I’ll drown

Drown from this thing called being IN LOVE

The girl on the docks

Watching wave upon wave

Being washed out in vain

She stands upon the dock

In the soft drizzle of the rain

 

Her short summer dress

Clings to her body, wet

And in her eyes

A vague sign of regret

 

She leans forward

Bending over the slippery rail

Clutching tightly to it

Her hands once firm, now frail

 

She stares into the ocean

And what crosses her mind

Is the one who said he loves her

Is the one she left behind

 

Tears flow freely now and mix

With raindrops on her cheeks

The life she once had and knew

Is the one she now seeks

 

But still she clasps to the hope

Even thru this rainy weather

That soon she’ll return again

So they could be together

When the eyes of two lovers meet
That first intense stare
Unleashing the moment’s heat

That magical moment
When kisses are shared
When passion fills our bodies
As skin gets bared

That magical moment
With the exchange of rings
Walking you down the isle
Hearing the voices of angels sing

That magical moment
Imagine the joyfulness
With the birth of a first born child
Just to hold that bundle of bliss

That magical moment
When limbs are sore and old
Skin wrinkled, but the love
For each other far from cold

These are the magical moments
Beautiful and true
These are the moments in life
I would love to share with you

Bloeisels

Ek het vandag die eerste bloeisels

Aan die kaal winter takke sien hang

Dit het my aan jou laat dink

Dit het my na jou laat verlang

 

Ek het daarby stil gaan staan

Ek wou vir jou ‘n takkie pluk

Maar jy was nêrens naby my

Om dit agter jou oor in te druk

 

Ons seisoen het tot ‘n einde gekom

Lente het ons Winter geword

Die bloeisels wat binne my blom

Het met eens op die grond neergestort

 

En wat daarvan oorgebly het

Slegs ‘n verlepte hart

Wat Lente weer soos Winter laat lyk

Eensaam, koud, kaal – vol smart

 

Ek sal bly terugkyk na dié seisoen

Toe my hart doodgebloei het

Na dié tyd van die jaar wanneer

Bloeisels uit die bome vloei

Celestial Ball

High up above

A million lights shine

But none as bright as you do

 

I took you by the hand

Whispered in your ear

And just like that we flew

 

The universe was our dance floor

And the cosmos the venue

For this Celestial Ball

 

We danced along with thousand stars

Each with radiant beauty of their own

But you being the star that outshone them all

 

We danced around the sun

Then landed on the moon

The setting was just right

 

You found your way into my arms

Our hearts were open but our eyes shut tight

You and I slept in heaven that night

About a Boy and a Girl

She liked playing with fire

She always danced with the sun

Ferocious and fierce

And constantly on the run

 

Fearless she was

Yet gentle and meek

She knew her place on earth

And success she did seek

 

Then one day, she met a boy

Tall, dark haired with green eyes

A little slim, but handsome enough I’d say

And different from most other guys

 

They found trust in one another

An unbreakable bond they did build

That empty void within their hearts

Unexpectedly got filled

 

They shared common interests

Their signature was the form of a dove

If I wasn’t mistaken, then

I’d say they were in love

 

They dried each other’s tears

But mostly they were filled with laughter

Somehow that wasn’t enough

Still it was success she was after

 

In spite of all his effort to make her stay

She said she had to leave

In search for something greater

To his greatest grief

 

So the boy would sit up late at night

Rearranging the stars and the moon

Hoping she’ll read his message in the sky

To return to him soon

 

“I will wait for you”

Those were the words she was told

The boy would patiently count the days

For she’s the only one he longs to hold

 

Yes, there is this girl

She likes to play with fire

Then there is me – the boy

She is my every desire
